Microsoft has released several articles and a dedicated website that all state that the feature to sync gmail contacts, calendars, and email is now available. Jun 12, 2017 A user noticed on 5/29/17 that the calendar on our o365 Public Foldes wasn't up to date on their Outlook for Mac 2016. On 5/16/17, I updated to the latest version of Azure AD connect and Outlook for Mac 15.34 (170515) was released, so I suspect it was one of those two changes that caused the problem. Running Windows 10 (fresh install) Outlook 2016 (fresh install) iTunes 12.3 iPhone 5 9.0.2 USB sync mandatory due to client restrictions (no Wi-Fi or iClouds allowed) I have the initial sync of the calendar and contacts and the combined system listed above will not permit an update of the contacts & calendar from Outlook 2016 to the phone. Phone has been reset, iTunes reinstalled and I have reinstalled the mail contacts on the phone all over again. The mail accounts do not have any options for contacts or calendar. I have used the option to replace contacts, calendar and notes on the phone with the info on the computer. My once treasured smartphone is now accompanied with a slip of paper with updated info on it. Following a lengthy series of polite discussions with Apple Support (Case ), I was called today by a gentleman from Product Support. The Engineering Department wanted him to 'reset my expectations'. He informs that iTunes 12.3 is not ready to fully support Outlook 2016 USB sync. Apple feels this is old technology and we should be using the cloud to sync. Note: my setup had been working perfectly for years prior to installing Outlook 2016; now there are several serious issues. My emails to Apple document the product issues in detail. Upcoming version of iTunes 12.4 MAY solve some problems. There is no release date available. There is a problem with iCloud contact sync where large contact notepads may be truncated. Unit tests in visual studio. No solution for that either. Apparently it is a management decision to Not Assign resources to these problems. I am informed that to raise this issue to a higher level of importance, your feedback should be posted at www.apple.com/feedback Please do so. I have the same issue. I have been syncing my outtlook (datafile) contacts with my iphone via USB and itunes for years. Then I upgraded to outlook 2016, and the outlook sync wiped out my contacts from the phone, and wont sync any of my outlook contacts to the phone. ICould has no way to sync from outlook to iphone either (only the other way round). I tried putting all my contacts in a hotmail account, and installing outlook on the phone, but this doesnt put the contacts into the iphone contacts, so they cant be used to make phone calls. This is a showstopping disaster - there exist no solution to sync contacts from outlook (the master) to iphone. I see that itunes has an option to sync with 'windows contacts', but I cant find what these are - I dont have any. They are not the outlook contacts, and they are not the windows ID email's contacts either, so this is not going to work. Time to switch to android? I had a same issue, or worth, iTunes wiped out all my contacts. The link provided didn't help, and iCloud method mentioned above did bring back a partial, or outdated, contacts. Well, in my case, the culprit was Outlook 2016, not iTunes. I realized that it happened after I updated Outlook.com account in Outlook 2016 as Microsoft suggested. Check your default data file for Outlook 2016. If it's different than your contacts and calendar are stored, iTunes will not sync. In my case, my default data file was changed to Outlook.com account after the update. Hopefully this will help resolve the issue some of you who landed on this post in a future. Its OK, I found how to change it, its in Outlook File - Account Settings - Data Files I had to change mine to Personal Folders and all my contacts the synced straight back onto my iPhone. What a relief! It does feel like the big players are becoming less willing to allow people to mix the best products from each. Google will no longer allow other suppliers to update their Calendar, it has to be done through the Google app or website, Microsoft isn't testing that their changes still work with Apple, and Apple never seemed to want anyone to use anything but Apple stuff. Either that or they have always had lazy or incompetent developers that couldn't get things right, was never sure what it was that caused the problems between Apple and Microsoft. So, I've been syncing my iphone with outlook since I finally switched from my palm pilot.a long time. I got a new PC Jan. '17 with fresh installs of everything. But, I realized towards the end of January, that my contact updates in Outlook weren't syncing to my phone. The reverse was also true, new iphone contact updates were not getting to outlook. I tried resetting; I reinstalled office 365; I turned sync on/off; nothing was working.
